When it gets down to marketing, there are no trivial things. If you are making a landing page for your ad campaign or brand promotion, it is important to take care of everything including colours. Check inside some surprising facts and psychological tricks that will help you to succeed.

1. Highlight your business area

By the selecting the right colour palette you will subconsciously tell you customers what your company specialisation is. IT solutions usually aim for blue, white and grey tones. Food brands prefer red and yellow colours, which are known to be good for appetite (think about brand colours of McDonalds or Burger King for example). If you work in travelling or eco-industry go for blue or green gamma, it associates with sea and forest, which helps to improve the perception.

2. Gender has its preferences too

If you think that we will be suggesting making all websites for women pink and all pages for men blue, you are wrong. Still, there are some preferences implied by gender. Statistics says that women like websites with bright pages better, whereas men prefer cool light colours like grey or white. Take this into account if you product is designed for women or men only. If not, try to find some balance by combining a few colours.

3. Age speaks its word

Gender also plays big role when selecting colours for the landing page. Kids and teenagers tend to love bright colours, so if you are aiming at them, you can take the risk of combining a few bright colours, like green with yellow or orange with blue.

Elder generation prefers pastel and dark colours. If you can’t limit your audience this way, no worries, just rely on what we described above.

4. Don’t use too many colours

A common mistake when choosing colours is selecting too many of them. Remember, that too bright website might discourage the User from visiting it. It is preferable to limit the choice to 2-3 colours. Good news here is that you can always add white, grey and black, since they are neutral colours. It is also a good idea to use Colour Triangle for selection.

5. Mix colours to achieve balance

And finally, if you selected a few colours for you landing page, make sure you use them repeatedly across the whole page. It is a good idea to add the colour you use in the footer to links, bullet list or some separators. Repeating the colours will help you to add harmony to your page.

As you see, selecting colours is not as difficult as it seems. Don’t be afraid to try your skills!
